Mac: printer offline or not showing up
The printer isn't listed in Printers & Scanners, or shows as Offline. Usually a USB or adapter issue.
1. Is the driver installed?
If you haven't run the installer yet, follow your model's guide: S8 / M6 · M9 · A300 · older S8 / M6.
2. Reseat the USB connection
- Unplug the USB cable at both ends — the Mac side and the printer side — and plug it back in.
- Switch the printer off and on.
- Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners. If the printer is listed, click it and make sure it isn't paused.
3. Check the USB-C adapter or hub
Many "printer offline" cases on newer Macs are a USB-C adapter or hub that carries power but no data.
- Plug a USB memory stick into the same adapter. If the Mac can't read it, the adapter is the problem — try another one, or the adapter that came in the box.
- Plug the printer directly into the Mac if it has a USB-A port.
- Avoid passing the printer through a monitor or keyboard hub.
4. Remove and re-add the printer
In Printers & Scanners, select the printer and click – to remove it, then + to add it again, choosing the HotLabel (or 4BARCODE 4B-2074A) entry.
5. Set the default label size
If the printer is present but prints wrongly, set the default paper size to 4 × 6 in: Mac printer settings.
